A YORKSHIRE TERRIER’S OWNER joked on TikTok that she would quit her job so she could comfort her dog after a doggy daycare sent her a video showing what her pet was doing while she was away. However, the owner herself admits that Ben is quite spoiled.
Nicolette Ibarra shared a video on her TikTok account @nicoletteibarra00 on September 25 that has garnered more than 624,000 views to date. In the clip, a daycare worker cautiously approaches her Yorkshire Terrier Ben’s playpen, which sits alone and howls in sadness. Ibarra captioned the video, “Looks like I’m quitting.” Although Ben is used to the routine of daycare, he’s still a typical Yorkie — small, dramatic, and eager for attention.
An attention-seeking breed
Despite the dramatic scenes, Ibarra explained the story behind it to Newsweek . Ben, like many Yorkies, simply doesn’t like to be alone. Yorkshire terriers were once used as hunting dogs, but nowadays they are mostly companion dogs that like to be with their people at all times.
Although the video appears to show him abandoned, the owner assured followers that he was only separated because it was time for his dinner.
“Recently, we started bringing him dinner, so he could eat it while he was in kindergarten, which we didn’t do before. We told the employees to feed him at 5 p.m.,” she explained. The problem is that 5 pm in kindergarten is usually playtime. Employees separated him so he could eat in peace. He spent about 10 minutes there before returning to the rest of the group, Ibarra said.
But since she posted the video, there’s been a change. Ibarra revealed that Ben no longer spends time in daycare and instead stays with her grandmother while she’s at work, because he gets more attention there.
