DISNEYPLUS has finally revealed on social media when fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians can expect the second season to premiere. When the first season premiered in 2024, it generated a lot of interest from viewers and achieved great streaming results.
Although the exact premiere date is still unknown, as is the plot of the new season, Disney has revealed that the second season will premiere in December of this year. “The Sea Calls… Percy Jackson and the Olympians returns for season two this December on DisneyPlus,” reads a post on the official DisneyPlus Instagram.
As a reminder, Variety reported that the first season of the series has been streamed for over 110 million hours on Disney+ and Hulu. Divided by the length of the season, that translates to roughly 20.6 million views, suggesting that the season’s audience has grown over the course of its month-long run. It has already broken records with 13.3 million views in its first six days of availability. It continues to have very good results on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92 percent approval rating from critics and 81 percent from viewers.
Likewise, Disney’s division, Disney Branded Television, which is responsible exclusively for producing content aimed at children, teens, and families, confirmed that Percy Jackson had the most-watched premiere in the division’s history.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an adaptation of the eponymous series of fantasy novels by the American writer Rick Riordan. In this six-book series, we follow the adventures of 12-year-old demigod Percy Jackson, son of the sea god Poseidon, and his friends Annabeth Chase, daughter of the goddess Athena, and satyr Grover Underwood.
In the first season of the Disney adaptation, Percy is accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt. Because of this, he and his friends must find a real thief in order to prove his innocence and restore order to Olympus.
The series stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, while supporting roles include Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Timm Sharp, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lance Reddick, and numerous other actors.
